The Magic of Winter and Christmas events

What is Christmas really all about?

Is it the joy of gathering with loved ones? The indulgence in festive food and treats? The excitement of decking the halls with twinkling lights and shimmering ornaments? Or perhaps it’s the thrill of surprising those we care about with thoughtful gifts?

The truth is, Christmas is all of these things—and so much more!

But what if you could bring all of these magical moments together under one roof? Imagine celebrating Christmas, ringing in the New Year, and even saying “I do” in one unforgettable celebration.

That’s why we’re huge fans of Winter Weddings, Christmas Celebrations, and New Year’s Parties—especially when all these festive moments come together in one stunning event!

To dive into the spirit of it all, we caught up with the incredible Milkshed Catering, who have helped hundreds of couples bring their wintery visions to life with exquisite, festive feasts.

Katie, one of the creative masterminds behind Milkshed, shares some of her top tips, ideas, and helpful insights to elevate your winter event—from seasonal menu inspiration to creating a cosy, joyful atmosphere. Whether you’re planning a small intimate gathering or a grand festive celebration, Katie’s wisdom will help you turn your winter dreams into reality!

Festive feasting – so much more than turkey and pigs in blankets!:

Go all out with festive themed canapes – and enjoy them alongside mulled wine, bubbles or a fabulous Christmas cocktail (recipe below for inspiration).
You don’t have to have turkey!! Why not treat guests to a beautiful Beef Wellington – always an extra special option and a fantastic talking point.
Opt for a show-stopper dessert – how about a beautiful yule log or multi-layer Winter berry pavlova to share for each table (or maybe go for both!!)? Add sparkler candles for extra wow factor.

Sparkling cranberry gin fizz recipe:
25ml Gin or Berry Gin
100ml Cranberry Juice
125ml Prosecco
Ice, rosemary, and pomegranate seeds – for garnish

Method
1. Fill a glass with ice.
2. Pour over the gin and cranberry juice, then give it a gentle stir.
3. Top with Prosecco and garnish with rosemary and pomegranate seeds.

Winter-wonderland styling can look incredible at Huntsham Court. With a 16ft Christmas tree in the Great Hall and traditional decorations throughout the house, adding your own special touches doesn’t have to feel like hard work.

Here’s our top tips:

Appeal to all the senses – sparkly lights and candles, festive tunes and Christmas favours (or crackers!). Add some fabulous Winter spiced candles for that little bit extra for the senses.

For extra wows and amazing photos, hire a snow machine for your outdoor sparkler run!
Ask all of your guests to bring one Christmas decoration that means something special to them – create a special memory tree with them all hanging together.

Winter and Festive weddings can be about merging some of the usual traditions, as well as including some Christmas Magic!

Here’s some of our favourite ideas:

Add your favourite Christmas carol, song or poem into your ceremony for a festive nod and to get everyone in the mood!

Surprise your other half with a wedding day Christmas stocking on the morning of your wedding – fill it with written memories and small gifts that remind you of each other.

Top reasons to host a Winter event at Huntsham Court:

As a venue, it lends itself to dressing to impress! With so many bedrooms to house all your guests and for them to get ready in, you can really ask them to go to town when glamming up. Think sequins, faux fur, black tie or velvet suits – it’s not possible to overdress!
The magnificent fireplace in the Great Hall is best when stoked and roaring for a Winter event. Speak to a local florist, such as Sophie from Earth Gallery Flowers, about seasonal blooms to complement it or add heaps of pillar candles for extra atmosphere.
The Yellow Room and Library are absolutely beautiful when dressed for a Winter banquet – use the venue’s gold candelabras with taper candles for ambiance and tie burgundy or black velvet ribbons around your napkins for an extra sophisticated touch.
