That\u2019s why we\u2019ve searched the internet on your behalf to come up with the best tips and self stated \u201cexpert\u201d advice for nailing those wedding speeches. <\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s still a lot of tradition out there about who says what in a set order, but let\u2019s be honest; we\u2019re not all traditional and we all like to do things our own way! So we say throw the list out the order and go with the flow.\u00a0<\/span>Now, when it comes to general speech making advice, the world wide web suggests the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Have a killer opening line<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Thank the other speakers<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Congratulate the wedding couple<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Compliment the bride<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make a joke about the groom<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read messages from any guests who couldn&#8217;t make it<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Quote a few famous lines or a poem<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Propose a toast<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Which we agree with, but if only it was that easy, right? What counts as a killer line? What\u2019s too teasing, what\u2019s funny? How do you appear like you\u2019re in control and not babbling and sweating in a hot Tux? What a nightmare!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But don\u2019t worry, we\u2019ve seen enough speeches here at Huntsham to add our own tips to the list:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plan well, well, well in advance &#8211; months ahead in fact. The best speeches we\u2019ve seen have come from people who wrote and researched the speech in advance, and not winged it at the time. Don\u2019t leave it to the last day. Fact. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Research is a key term &#8211; make sure you do it! Find out who else is invited (so you know if you\u2019re speaking to a room of older people or young families etc.), discover which funny moments are allowed to be mentioned and which are off limits, and write it all down so you don\u2019t forget.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Make sure everyone has drinks ready &#8211; including yourself. This will allow you to settle and breath as you take a sip instead of rushing into the start of the speech, and it will help the toast at the end to go flawlessly.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2041\" src=\"https:\/\/www.huntshamcourt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/Drinks.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100%\" height=\"100%\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.huntshamcourt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/Drinks.jpg 769w, https:\/\/www.huntshamcourt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/Drinks-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.huntshamcourt.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/03\/Drinks-271x177.jpg 271w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 769px) 100vw, 769px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut what about the actual words\u201d we hear you cry? Well that we can\u2019t help you with &#8211; you know the couple well and you\u2019ll know who the audience are (because you did your research, remember) so the rest is up to you to make words fit the situation. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s plenty of examples on the internet, some good and some bad, so we suggest you use what\u2019s available and add your own unique twist &#8211; make it about you and the couple. We\u2019ve listed below some of the openings we\u2019ve seen on www.hitched.co.uk which made us laugh, yawn, or worse, cringe! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When it comes to it, you need to be yourself. We\u2019re sure the audience will love you!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cDistinguished guests, guests of no particular distinction, relatives young and old, friends, freeloaders, hangers on, gypsies, tramps and thieves and anyone else who may have wandered in (to get out of the rain \u2013if it\u2019s raining) on behalf of my wife and I&#8230; or as I prefer to call her &#8220;my most recent ex-girlfriend&#8221;, welcome to our wedding breakfast. I hope you&#8217;re all enjoying yourselves on this special day. It\u2019s great to see you all and I can honestly say it would not have been the same without you.
