Duck and Strawberry

We were super excited when Leanne and Mike took us to one side mid event to let us in on a little secret…
They had been working on a complete brand overhaul!
Huntsham Courts Supplier’s Spotlight is thrilled to introduce Duck and Strawberry, formerly known as M Welsh catering services. One of Huntsham Courts much loved recommended suppliers.
Mike and Leanne have been serving up delights for clients weddings and events at Huntsham Court for many years now. Learning of their news meant we simply had to catch up with them to know more!
Get ready to feel inspired and for your mouths to water…
Over to you Leanne!

We see you have rebranded, tell us a bit about why

When M Welsh Catering Services was born in 2014, we were a small chef agency and not a wedding caterer which is why we chose our name.

With public knowledge growing of Mike’s exceptional cooking skills. As time passed we were asked if we would consider catering at weddings of friends and family.

We did, and this was the beginning of our love & passion of being such an important part of one of the most special days of people’s lives.

We quickly grew from strength to strength winning multiple awards along the way and created a fantastic sought after and sustainable business.

Duck & Strawberry is a name which we have loved since we were considering opening a gastro pub some years ago which sadly never came to fruition so we thought, so we thought why not use this quirky name for our current business?

We hope that this change will strengthen the growth of our business by creating a more memorable, contemporary identity and a competitive edge within the industry.

Tell us about what couples can expect from Duck and Strawberry when it comes to catering

At Duck & Strawberry we source the finest produce from Devon’s extensive larder, cooked with the love and care that it deserves. Presented beautifully and served by our fully trained front of house team.
A list of all of our fantastic local suppliers can be found on our website.
We have a huge range of menu ideas which can be found on our website, however we are more than happy to discuss bespoke menus which enables our couples to create a wedding breakfast full of personality that reflects them perfectly.

Couples have loved M Welsh menus over the years, will Duck and Strawberry be introducing anything new?

The rebrand of M Welsh Catering Services was not an attempt to change our business model. As you have rightly said, couples have loved our menus over the years so they will remain the same with a few tweaks and also a new Canape & Starter which reflects the new name.
We have introduced new branded uniforms, a new style of serving our canapes & sign-written our refrigerated van. We also have something new and special for all of our couples but that remains a secret!!

What’s your personal favourite wedding day menu and why

Mike’s favourite wedding menu would be:
A selection of canapes – Champagne Poached Oysters, Pickled Cucumber & Caviar, Pork Belly Bites with Soy & Honey, Confit Duck Croquette with Strawberry & Vodka Gel, Leek & Smoked Cheddar Arancini with Wild Garlic Aioli
Starter – Scallop Lasagne, Crab Bisque, Micro Leaf Salad & Dill Puree
Main – Fillet of Devon Beef, Smoked Shin Croquette, Boulangere Potatoes, Baby Carrot, Greens, Port Sauce
Dessert – Strawberry Cheesecake, Crushed Meringue, Lemon & Elderflower Gel
This is my favourite menu for a few different reasons. It encompasses everything that we think a wedding menu should be. Special, indulgent & elegant. A treat for the eyes and the tastebuds.
These are some of my favourite dishes to cook, serve and enjoy myself!

Do you have a favourite wedding that’s taken place at Huntsham Court and why

We have two favourite weddings at Huntsham Court.
1. Jon & Jonathan back in February 2022.
Wow, did we all have a good time at this one! We provided a delicious curry buffet for all of the guests on Friday evening and then on the wedding day we served Canapes and a 3 course plated wedding breakfast with authentic kebabs for their evening snack.
We were then back again on Sunday morning to nurse the hangovers with a delicious buffet style full English breakfast. The boys and their guests were just so outrageously fun ALL weekend, everyone had the best time!

2. Sam & Paul in August 2023
This wedding was just stunning in every way. They made such fantastic use of their extended 4 night stay at Huntsham Court with a Downton Abbey themed evening on the Friday.
Guests dressed to impress in their 1920’s attire and were treated to a selection of Canapes including Champagne Poached Oysters followed by a 3 course themed fine dining menu of a Honey Roasted Fig starter with charred envive & devon blue cheese, Duo of Venison main course with Tia Maria Chocolate Pots & Glazed Lemon Tart to finish.
On the wedding day we arrived early to serve a full English buffet style breakfast followed by Canapes and a 3 course sharing menu including a surf & turf feast.
This couple really showed that with a wedding at Huntsham, the possibilities are endless… They had hot tubs on the lawn, archery & lazer clay pigeon shooting, Great Gatsby live models, string quartet, an illustrator, Saxophonist, the list goes on… It really was incredible!
