Christmas at Huntsham Court

Have you ever wondered what Christmas at Huntsham Court might be like?

Ever considered a winter wedding or hosting a festive celebration?

We caught up with a selection of people at the venue, from Event Managers to the venue owners to find out why they think Christmas at Huntsham Court is extra special!

Natalie from Hyland events had this to say…

  • What is your favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas?

Walking into the Great Hall with the Christmas decorations on display and the glowing fire….there is nothing more comforting than having the beautiful fireplace lit when it is crisp and cold outside. It wraps you in a lovely, warm, festive hug.

  • Do you have any favourite moments from a Christmas/Festive wedding at Huntsham Court?

One of my couples set up a mulled wine station on the arrival night to welcome guests into the house with something toasty to warm up with. Another couple hand-painted some tapered candles with different festive images, individually painting guests names on them to use as their wedding favours. The were the perfect to re-use on the table for Christmas day! Also the photos from a winter wedding around the grounds, particularly if it a beautiful crisp day as just incredible (even more so with a touch of winter fog for some added atmosphere to your photos).

Next we caught up with Laura from Kept weddings

  • What is your favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas?
Its hard to name one favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas! I think overall the things that stand out to me are cosy furnishings with big plump sofas to snuggle into, the roaring fireplace in the Great Hall is such a warm welcome,  the multitude of twinkling Chandeliers throughout the house which look like icicles and during an event I love seeing the guests gathered by the bar, laughing and enjoying special time together.
  • Do you have any favourite moments from a Christmas/Festive wedding at Huntsham Court?
One of my favourite moments from a Christmas Wedding would be when Devon Pantry served Mulled Wine out the front of the House after a the couple and guests created a sparkler tunnel (think confetti aisle but with sparklers at night!) It was the perfect comfort moment on a chilly evening.

Clair, our Operations manager, has some fabulous memories from previous winter events…

  • What is your favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas?

I particularly love it when guests adorn the tables with candles, lights and decorations. These reflect back through the large windows in the reception rooms. It makes banquets even more atmospheric, adding a wintery glow and twinkle throughout the house.

There are 2 things that that stand out to me. One of my couples used little Xmas trees as table plans and hung place names on the trees. Another couple got married down at the church, so they decided to have mulled wine and mini mince pies taken down for their guests while photos were taken on the church steps and pathway. It was a warm welcome that the vicar approved and was even happy to partake!

Jenny, one of the Event Managers & Communication Manager for the venue loved these winter moments…

  • What is your favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas?

For me, its the location. As you drive through Devon, the countryside is absolutely stunning. Whether its a crisp morning with the grass frozen white, the venue itself shrouded in a swirl of fog, the deep blue night skies studded with stars or even a dusting of snow across the landscape, it never fails to take your breath away. Arriving at the venue, you feel completely removed from the every day hustle-bustle, surrounded by tranquillity.

One of the stand out moments for me was when a couple a few years back stayed an extra day/night after the wedding day itself. We reset the dinning room and created big banqueting tables, complete with Christmas decorations, ivy runners, candles and crackers. It was the ultimate setting for the best Christmas dinner celebration I have ever seen!

The venue owners, Chris and Damian, have fond memories of Huntsham Court through the festive period…

  • What is your favourite thing about Huntsham Court at Christmas?
One of our favourite things about Xmas at Huntsham Court is sitting in the Great Hall with the fire lit, surrounded by friends and family with the fire crackling away and the tree twinkling in the background. We have held Christmas day at Huntsham Court a few times now and there is nothing like opening presents together in the Great Hall.
  • Do you have any favourite moments from a Christmas/Festive wedding at Huntsham Court?
A favourite Festive Moment was last New Years Gatsby themed “ball” we hosted. Surrounded by friends and family, we had a wonderful evening using all of the ground floor reception rooms to the full. It was lovely to be on the receiving end of the talented suppliers, including caterers who kindly took care of the cooking throughout the day, wowing our guests a delicious menu. Dancing to music and toasting at midnight in the Great Hall was fantastic, experiencing the house as is intended, for grand parties!
