Wedding Cake

There are so many parts to a wedding day we look forward to, but there is a particular bit we all can’t resist.

The Wedding cake!

Not only is this a sweet (and sometimes savoury) treat, it is often an absolute feast for the eyes!

To discover more about Wedding Cakes, we caught up with designer, creator and baker extraordinaire Nicole from Sweet Satisfaction.

Tell us a bit about you and Sweet Satisfaction

Sweet Satisfaction is my life. Deciding on your wedding cake is one of the most exciting parts of planning your special day.

My job is to understand, interpret and deliver the dreams and desires of both you and your partner.  I love making people happy and celebrating their union with a beautiful centrepiece for their wedding.

I am a perfectionist and fuss over the smallest detail.

Tell us about your process when designing a wedding cake for a client

I like to understand the bridal couple – who they are, and their vision for their wedding day. Wedding cake design starts with the people and their love story…. and ends with a focal point for the reception that brings it all together.

The important thing is that the couple LOVE it!

We all know the inside is just as important as the outside, what are your go-to flavour combinations?

To me, the taste is as important as the design!

Some flavours just suit certain seasons better. Consider a light vanilla sponge with passion fruit curd, fresh raspberries and a white chocolate buttercream in mid-summer and a spiced apple cake with salted caramel sauce and caramel buttercream in mid-winter.

If it is too difficult to decide, then I always suggest more tiers to the cake so you can include all your favourites!

What has been your favourite wedding cake to date?

My favourite wedding cake to date must be my epic Super Mario wedding cake, here at Huntsham Court. Abi and Steve wanted a very personal cake! I love it when couples want something different from the traditional styles.

Here is what Abi and Steve had to say: “We asked Nicole to make us a Super Mario-themed wedding cake and were blown away by the results. For someone that didn’t know her Poochi from her Goomba, we were amazed by the level of detail she managed to capture in all the character work.

The result was a piece of art that probably got as many photos taken of it as the happy couple! Nicole was lovely to work with and went out of her way to make sure we didn’t see the cake until the big reveal.

We were in total shock when we saw it! Plus, it tasted great too. (Particularly the delicious Black Forest layer, which deserves a place in everyone’s cake!) We were over the moon with our epic cake!”

What do you love about Huntsham Court and why?

There is so much to love about Huntsham Court. It has something of everything: grandness and intimacy, darkness and light, gorgeous gardens and rooms with views. One is spoiled for choice on where to display a cake to its best advantage.

And it is a versatile space that works for a wedding, no matter the season. Setting up is always a pleasure because of the friendly and efficient team at Huntsham.

Do you have any top tips for couples who want to incorporate a wedding cake into their celebrations

Plan ahead – The best people to make your dreams a reality are booked up months and even years ahead.

Communicate – Make sure your chosen cake designer understands who you are and what you want.

Detail – Keep records and notes of all your choices, from dress and flowers to invitations and place settings.

All these details help me make sure that your cake is the crowning glory at your wedding.
