Oh my lord, it’s finally happened, this the moment you’ve been waiting for!
You’re wearing an engagement ring and you’re getting married! You’ve got engaged!
What to do first? Your mind is already buzzing with ideas, you have lists of people to contact and you’re already planning your Pinterest board filled with wedding inspiration. However, there is no need to feel overwhelmed. You have plenty of time to plan the big day and look forward to the rest of your lives together.
Need a hand with what to do first once the question has been popped? Here are a few helpful hints after you have got engaged:

Let the family know
It might seem obvious, but letting your family know you’ve got engaged first is important, you don’t want the sister of your best mate running into your mum in the supermarket only to congratulate her on you two getting engaged! On top of this, the last place they should have to hear about your new couple status is on social media.
Heavenly hands
Your left hand will be getting a lot of attention for the next couple of weeks, so think about moisturising your hands regularly (no matter how bling the ring is, it won’t distract from chapped skin and flaky nails) plus you could consider a manicure to really make that new ring dazzle!
Cheers!
Once you have let those important people in your life know, it’s time to round up everyone else for a celebratory drink and let them know you’ve got engaged! Get everyone together for a surprise announcement or simply organise a gathering to share the good news. Plus its likely in your friends group that a few couples have already got married, so they are bound to have to some good advice to pass on.
Insure the ring
No matter how expensive that new ring is, its sentimental value is everything so get it insured. It’s a small cost for something that means the world to you and your partner. Hopefully this will give you peace of mind when wearing it.
Time out
Getting engaged is going to take some getting used to and it is definitely going to need time to sink in. Take some time out together, don’t jump into wedding planning right away. Why not plan a mini break, away from everyone else’s big ideas for your wedding day! This way you and your beloved can enjoy the glow of getting engaged and talk wedding plans at your own pace… or not at all of your prefer!
Its a Date
After a bit of time out, it’s time to start thinking about wedding dates as venues get booked up in advance. Consider seasons, which do you prefer? Is there a date which holds particular importance to you both? Does it clash with any other dates like family birthdays, other friend’s weddings? Narrowing dates down will make it easier when it comes to finding your perfect venue.
Time to look at Wedding Venues
Once you have an idea of dates, guest numbers, how much accommodation you need and location, you can start to look at wedding venues!
Looking at around 3 venues will give you a good idea of what style suits you and what stands out as being the most important part of your day. After your first visit, maybe consider returning with your family or friends to help with the all important decision…. Where you are getting married!
