Garden Art, Antique and Food Fair
Wednesday, 25 June 2014, pop in 11.30-5.00pm
The League of Friends were delighted to arrange a Garden Fair and cream tea in such a lovely venue. About 150 took a tour of the house and were fascinated to see inside the lovingly restored house. A big thank you to the owners of Huntsham court for the use of their house to raise funds for Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton and praise to the hard work of the band of volunteers, especially in the kitchen! The lovely setting, the variety of stalls and the good weather all contributed to a very special and happy day, raising £1983.90 for the Taunton hospital – a brilliant result, thank you!
Peter Renshaw, Chair League of Friends of Taunton Hospital.
The day was a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the gardens of Huntsham Court filled with arts, crafts, antiques and food, with quirky corners and fine country views. There 30 stands selling the best of garden design, art, antiques, local goods, food and plants, including garden sculptures by Melanie Deegan. The weather was perfect too with a light breeze and radiant sunshine so we couldn’t have asked for more.
The tea shop was run by a fantastic group of volunteer ladies baed themselves int he Butler’s Pantry serving tea, cake and scones all day from beginning to end. Visitors enjoyed these either in the gardens bathed in sunshine listening the Shaun Newman playing guitar or in the Great Hall with John Young, and later Giles Adams, playing Piano. All the musicians volunteered their services for the day which brought real atmosphere to the event.
Daytime 40 minute Tours of the House
The owners of the house Chris and Damian ran tours of the house throughout the day with all proceeds going to the League of Friends.Groups of 20 people visited the reception rooms, kitchens and 6 of the 31 bedrooms whilst listening to the architectural history of the building and its interesting past.
The day was kindly captured for us by Mark from www.evolvephoto.co.uk, some of the images at the top.
The League of Friends of the Taunton Hospital
The League of Friends of Musgrove Hospital work tirelessly to help our local hospital which benefits so many people and families in our area. We are proud and privileged to give our house and grounds to their good cause and our community. The League of Friends of the Taunton Hospital, Musgrove Park, is one of the oldest local charities. Formed in 1959 by The Rotary Club of Taunton we promote voluntary service in the hospital and raise funds to buy extra equipment over and above what the NHS could afford to provide for our very well regarded Foundation Trust Hospital.
It promotes voluntary service at Musgrove Park Hospital and raises money for equipment not afforded by the NHS. It has just given over £400,000 to equip 8 new bays in the expanded Emergency Department for major trauma, ambulance handover and resuscitation. The League is proud to contribute to our state-of-the-art ED at a time when A&E services are suffering nationally. The M5 crash highlighted the need for better facilities to compliment the excellent care, and emergency patients have doubled in the last 20 years.
Recently the League gave £350,000 towards a £1m digital CT Scanner to diagnose trauma patients quickly, £58K for a spinal microscope and funded equipment in many other departments. Now Musgrove is opening a new 112-bed surgical wing, the Jubilee Building, with the League’s help for equipment. Funding requests are bound to continue.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of local people who donate, attend events like this and above all, leave generous legacies. Our thanks to you all! Please be generous today and be sure that the League will give funds where they are needed most to benefit patients at Musgrove. www.leagueoffriendsmusgrovepark.co.uk
